Tattoo Aftercare

How to take care of your new tattoo for the best results

🩹

Initial Care β€” SecondSkin Film

Keep the tattoo covered with the SecondSkin film for 2–5 days. When you’re ready to remove it, pry gently from one edge and peel slowly to the side. Pink skin and some residual glue afterward are completely normal.

🧼

Cleaning

Wash the tattoo 2–3 times daily with warm water and unscented soap. Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel β€” never rub. Avoid using regular towels as they can harbor bacteria.

🧴

Moisturizing

Apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer twice daily for 10 days. Recommended products: Lubriderm, Aveeno, Aquaphor, or AfterInked lotion. Use only a thin layer β€” over-moisturizing can suffocate the skin and slow healing.

⏳

Healing Timeline

Your tattoo will flake naturally during the healing process β€” this is normal. Do not pick or scratch the flaking skin. Avoid body scrubs for the first 4 weeks. While visible healing happens in 2–3 weeks, complete healing typically takes 4–5 weeks.

Things to Avoid (First Two Weeks)

  • Hot baths, showers, or saunas
  • Swimming pools, lakes, or ocean water
  • Intense exercise or sports (gentle yoga is fine)
  • Tight clothing that rubs against the tattoo
  • Harsh scrubbing or exfoliants
  • Direct sun exposure β€” cover with clothing, use sunscreen after healing
Never use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean your tattoo.
🍷

A Note on Alcohol

Alcohol is not recommended for the first day or two after your session. It weakens your immune response, can hinder the healing process, and may increase swelling around the tattooed area.
